Hogan Harris is a Junior LHP with a 6-3 200 lb. frame from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Harris really took a step forward in his Sophomore season, showing how dominant he can be when he’s on top of his game. As a Sophomore, Harris compiled a 5-2 record, with a 2.66 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 11.6 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9. Harris has the ability to make batters miss, he also has shown the ability to induce soft contact by limiting opposing hitters to an excellent 6 H/9.
Sporting a two pitch mix, Harris has a fastball that has topped out at 96 and mixes in an excellent curveball that produces tight spin and gets a lot of swings and misses. When studying the tape you can see how hitters have difficulty picking up Harris’s pitches, as his release point and arm action deviate from the norm.
Having deception to his advantage, a fastball that tops out at 96 and a devastating curveball, are some of the attributes that make Harris one of the most intriguing prospects of 2018. Teams looking for a power arm that can turn into something special should continue to watch Harris’s progression. He will need to develop a third pitch and work on his command in order to succeed at the next level, but improvements from his Freshman season in ERA, WHIP, H/9, K/9, and K/BB, tells me that his best has yet to come.
